Official Rules
Cause Heroes provides a fundraising platform that uses the power of social media and other technologies to revolutionize the act of giving to charities. Among the prizes offered to benefit worthy causes are some unique gifts and experiences from brands that share our values. CAUSEHEROES.COM allows most people (see restrictions below) to enter contests and have an equal chance of winning. Pretty cool, right? And it's 100% legit, too. There are lots of laws in place to protect our donors and ensure our campaigns are fair. Please enjoy these long, detailed, official rules so that you have all the information you need before entering any of the contests or campaigns advertised on our website.

A few things to note:

- No purchase is necessary: you can enter any campaign for free (although we hope you'll consider showing some love to the charity - it is, after all, a great cause).

- These official rules apply to every contest we run—but sometimes we also have extra information or requirements. In those cases, we publish additional rules on the campaign page.
When you make a donation, we give you entries for the drawing. It's our way of saying thank you. No purchase is necessary to enter a contest. Void where otherwise prohibited or restricted by law. All federal, provincial and local laws and regulations apply.
How it works
Cause Heroes is the official host and owner of the contest. The net proceeds generated from the contest
will be donated to the Climate Heroes Fund, hosted by MakeWay.

The Climate Heroes Fund is a Donor Advised Fund hosted by MakeWay. A donor advised fund (DAF) is a simple and efficient alternative to creating a charitable foundation so that funding can reach climate leaders as quickly as possible.

Each campaign is a great team effort. First, we (The Cause Heroes Corporation of Canada Inc., or ''Cause Heroes'') work with the MakeWay Foundation, a Canadian tax-exempt public charity registered under the number 868947797RR0001. In partnership with MakeWay, our campaigns bring together ("Designated Grantees") and well-known brands who can serve as prize providers ("Prize Providers") and who allow the use of their logo and name on our Platform. Most people (see restrictions below) can enter to win the prizes ("Prizes").

You don't have to make a donation to enter a contest, but if you do, we give you entries as a thank you.
Entering a contest
When you enter a contest, you get to decide if you want to make a donation to the designated charity or not. The amount of your donation is at your discretion: you choose how much you want to donate based on your desired chances of winning the grand prize and how much you want to contribute to the cause. A scale is available on the contests page to illustrate the relation between the amount of your donation and the number of entries it gives you. If you decide not to donate, you can also contribute to the cause by sharing information on your social media. Note that it is also possible to enter contests without a donation nor a share. All the options are listed on the online form to enter a contest.
Entry weighting
Fairness matters to us: we use a system that treats every entry equally. Each registration made without a donation is automatically assigned a maximum of 1 entry. The more money you donate, the more entries you get!
Eligibility
We wish everybody could participate; however, some countries or states don't allow us to run our contests. Therefore, we have to restrict entries in those countries. This means that our campaigns are open to legal residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) and most of our campaigns are open to the 50 United States, as well as the District of Columbia and most countries around the world. However, they're unavailable in all the countries stated on the Canada/USA lists of embargoed countries, as well as in countries where local laws prohibit entry into contests. Even if we love our Quebec supporters, all contests are unavailable in the Province of Quebec, and Quebec residents are excluded from all our contests.

We may also have to limit certain campaigns to specific countries. If we do so, we state it in the specific rules on the campaign page.

To keep things fair, full-time and part-time employees of Cause Heroes, MakeWay, any Charity or Prize Provider for the applicable campaign, and members of their household and immediate families (i.e., parents, spouses, domestic partners, siblings, and children), are not eligible to enter. Additionally, any individual who uses a bot, software, or any other code, instruction or third party software for the purpose of automatically entering a contest (or multiple contests), or uses any way of having an unfair advantage over individuals who enter manually, will be disqualified from the contest they entered and all future ones, subject to Cause Heroes' sole discretion.

From time to time, we may set limitations on how frequently someone can be eligible to win more than one Major or Minor prize within a specific time period.

Lastly, note that your country might allow you to enter a contest, but not to receive a certain Prize. It is your responsibility to review any specific restrictions before claiming that Prize or making a donation.

In all cases, campaigns are unavailable where prohibited by law.
Entry period
The start and end date for each campaign is listed on the campaign page. Unless otherwise specified, we usually start campaigns at 12:00:01 A.M. EST – Eastern Standard Time ("ET") and end at 11:59:59 P.M. ET on the days specified. We call this time period the "Campaign Window".
Picking and confirming winners
Within 10 business days of the campaign being closed, we'll use an automated random drawing process under the supervision of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton to pick a potential winner(s) for that campaign. A confirmation process, which may include a background check, will then take place to ensure that the potential winner meets the legal requirements. The winner and, if applicable, their guest(s), agree to cooperate fully with Cause Heroes during the conduct of any background check(s), which implies providing information requested by Cause Heroes including, but not limited to, full legal names and addresses. Before confirming a winner, Cause Heroes may require them to confirm their eligibility. Once that is done, the potential winner and guest(s) must execute and return all required documents within the time frame specified by Cause Heroes. If you do not execute and return all required documents within the time frame, you will forfeit the Prize and Cause Heroes will pick another randomly drawn potential winner.

Travel companions are also required to sign a liability/publicity release form prior to issuance of tickets. Additionally, travel companions/guests of the winner may be subject to a background check, which may impact their ability to participate in the experience (the prize).
Restrictions and conditions on prizes
We describe each Prize on the campaign page and in every special campaign rules, including the approximate retail value of that Prize. See that section for more details.

Some Prizes have extra restrictions or conditions. We explain these in the specific rules for that campaign. For all travel Prizes, you have to travel on the dates and itinerary specified by Cause Heroes. All airfare is coach class and hotel accommodations are standard class, unless stated otherwise. For international travel, you are responsible for obtaining all necessary travel authorizations, visas, or other required documentation. All other expenses are your responsibility. Travel restrictions, conditions and limitations may apply. The Prize value may vary depending on place of departure, travel dates and fare/rate fluctuations. And because stuff happens, we are not responsible for any cancellations, delays, diversions or substitutions, or any act or omission of any third person with respect to the trip. Once they are in your possession, lost or stolen tickets, travel vouchers, certificates or similar items will not be replaced. The winner and their guest(s) must travel on the same itinerary. If you or your guest are, in our opinion or in the opinion of our partners, obnoxious, threatening, abusive, or harassing before or during the trip or reception of the Prize, Cause Heroes and its partners have the right to deny or terminate the trip or Prize, in whole or in part, and move on to the next randomly drawn winner if the Prize has not yet been delivered.

Your guest must be of legal age of majority in his/her jurisdiction of residence, or your child or legal ward (unless otherwise approved by us).

If you live within a one hundred (100) mile radius of the site where the Prize is to be delivered, we may provide ground transportation or a stipend for ground transportation. Additionally, any expenses not specified in the appropriate section, including, but not limited to, checked baggage fees, meals and gratuities, are the sole responsibility of the winner and their guest(s).

We spend a lot of time thinking up the most amazing Prizes possible, so unless specified otherwise in the specific campaign rules, Prizes can't be transferred or substituted. Unless stated otherwise in the specific campaign rules, in the event that a portion of a prize goes unused, it may not be substituted, transferred, or redeemed for cash.
Taxes
Cause Heroes does not issue or facilitate the issuance of donation receipts for contests entries. This is because current Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines discourage charities from issuing charitable receipts in respect of fees for sweepstakes, lottery tickets or other contest entries. For more information, contact the CRA or your tax advisor.
Winner publicity
By accepting the Prize, you agree that we can use your name, address (city and state), photograph, voice and/or other similar information about you in addition to information about the Prize to let everyone know how awesome the Prize was. This means we can include you in advertising and promotional materials for Cause Heroes, in any form of media (including media that is not known yet), and that we can do so without any additional compensation. This always applies unless otherwise prohibited by law.
Our use of your information
We want to get to know you! And so do our Charities and Prize Providers. Therefore, when you enter a contest, we collect some information about you. Check out our privacy policy to see what information we need to know and how we use it. If you choose to enter a contest, you agree to our privacy policy. You can always choose not to enter, but where's the fun in that?
Conflict management
We love you, and we hope you love us back. But if you don't, you agree that any and all disputes and disagreements between us will be governed by laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and you will bring any claims only in the Provincial court located in Halifax, Canada. Finally, unless the law prohibits you from doing so, you agree to waive the right to claim any damages including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages, and participants further waive all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.

In such circumstances, any participant in the contest, whether paid or free, hereby guarantees to hold harmless Cause Heroes from any and all demands, claims, actions, causes of action, proceedings, losses, damages, charges and expenses including principal and interest accrued or to accrue and costs.
